How swiftly things can change

How swiftly things can change
Like a rippling stream
Silenced by the first chill of winter
Easy to take for granted
Summer’s fervent warmth
Lost in the rapture
of children’s gleeful laughter
Mornings of waking up to
Bird’s chirping in trees
Rich with honeysuckle and emerald leaves
Evenings illuminated by full and crescent moons
Painted against a backdrop of a dusky sky
How we long for endless summers
Hoping for a lifetime of gently flowing streams
Aching to never loose the ones dearest to our hearts
But things do change
Streams do stop abruptly
When seemingly in full stride
It’s accepting this
And going on
That is one of life’s toughest tasks.
